A Day Trip to Bologna

“ I SPIT on Bologna” – Nonas Film

We certainly did not “spit” on Bologna— it was a great day. We took a train out from Florence after our morning cappuccino and hit the city hard.

A highlight was stumbling upon the little market in a piazza and wandering though picking our dinner assembly as well as the lovely narrow streets full of life.

Interesting side– we noticed that Bologna had tons of porticos and arches over most of their walkways– this is supposedly due to the rapid expansion of the urban city during medieval times when the porticos were a practical solution to creating more living and commercial spaces while not taking away from the public lands and city spaces. People could walk below while usable spaces were built on top. They are a remarkable and distinct feature of the city of Bologna.
