San Gimignano is a little town on a hill top in the region of Tuscany. It is encircled by 13th century fortification walls and has medieval stone towers poking up through out it’s city center. It sits on a hill surrounded by the vast and breathtaking landscape of vinyards and olive trees as far as the eye can see. This was the classic Tuscan look that I had been searching for.
The town was great fun to enter and peruse through. They were rocking the medival theme and had a whole museum of torture you could visit–we skipped that and instead went for the pleasant pottery and linen shops all around. I think when I get home I will take up that pottery class I have been wanting to do and Ben was pretty excited about starting up creating mini figurines .. you can ask him about that. :0 There was lots of art, food, and good gelato places. San Gimignano is home to the worlds best gelato–I did stand in 50 + line and got cut by some elderly Serb women, while Ben waited reading in a corner–but it was fabulous.
We were prepared to do some biking out of the town into the wine country, but all in all ended up enjoying the town and then going on a charming walk on a dirt road outside of the city. I really wanted to get at least a tiny taste of going into the vineyards and beautiful hills and valleys of greenery dotted with agroturismos and villas. It was a truly magical walk. We didn’t even go all that far, but it was perfect. San Gimignano is a little town on a hill top in the region of Tuscany. It was a truly magical walk. We didn’t even go all that far but it was perfect. I was absolutely delighted and would definitely like to come back and stay at some point.
