Our first grand viewing of the historic Blue Danube (Insert “An der Schönen Blau Donau by Straus). Also, our introduction to Christmas Markets in 2026. We’d been seeing the set-up for the markets in previous cities, but this was our first real thing.
The first night we walked through the city, and came to the Danube. We had an incredible view across the expanse of the river, of what used to be the Buda part of the city (Used to be two cities Buda and Pest). Two buildings dominated the sea of lights: the Buda Castle and the Fisherman’s Bastion. One of the most awe-inspiring views of the trip. We walked north along the river and passed the Parliament Building, another incredible detailed building (several nights later, we crossed the Danube to get a larger view of the Parliament Building- our featured photo).
While in the city, we enjoyed lots of beautiful buildings, cheesecake, some historical sites/statues (lots of Hapsburg history in Hungary), bookstores, and attending church with old Boston church friends.
